Perhaps talking about kiwi and peaches makes sense, it does prevent Nic from worrying about bald men driving Porsches. Dili explains how to punish unruly schoolchildren, a surprise confrontation with a controversial Bavarian politician, the benefits of Lederhosen, and a record-breaking castle.
After being out sick last week, Dili is back among the podcast microphones to share her adventures in German healthcare. We also learn how to start a pigeon wellness hotel. We discuss being imprisoned in Kindergarten, the arrival of Oktoberfest, and more troubling developments in Thuringia.
We’re back from Bonn, but we still have some important things to discuss, namely how did all that Haribo taste. Simon might be putting off trying the cake flavoured Gummibärchen, but Nic has been glorying in the wide open spaces of novelty flavour country. Nic has also been to Bamberg recently, which gives us a chance to talk Rauchbier and whether one of Bavaria’s most famous cities is really “the Venice of Germany”.
After a weekend of adventures up north in Hamburg, Nic returns with tales of Disney musicals, art oggoling, and riding on Mississippi Riverboats. Simon has a lot of questions, most importantly of all, how was the fish? Moving on from holidays, Nic quizzes Simon’s knowledge of German ice cream, while Simon returns the favour with some curious ice cream flavours. Anyone for fried chicken ice cream?
Nic’s dreams have finally come true as we finally rid ourselves of our placeholder theme tune and celebrate a very Bavarian collaboration with techno DJ Kloß mit Soß. With upbeat Blasmusik blaring in our ears, we turn our attention to the recent announcement that Oktoberfest will be returning in 2022 and ask whether Jürgen Klopp is Britain’s favorite German. We make a disappointing visit to Simon’s favourite kebab shop and we finish with an update on Boris Becker’s legal woes.

A wild boar attack in Barcelona gives us a chance to ask whether German Boars are more mild mannered than their Catalonian brethren, Simon goes on a saucy adventure as he looks at a survey on the regional condiment choices in the UK and to finish off, Nic looks at two recent stories from Bavaria that suggest what kind of problems we might face at the post-pandemic Oktoberfest.
We’re joined by Marty this week, better known as The Honorable Husband on Twitter, to talk Oktoberfest withdrawal and the pitfalls of living and working in a different language, Simon celebrates the Tag der deutschen Einheit (German Unity Day), Nic asks what other countries could offer their populations to improve vaccine uptake and lads finish up with a discussion on the words and phrases connected with Angela Merkel.
On the show this week, Simons and Nic discuss moving house as Simon settles into his new home.
